On Saturday, 12th Baisakh 2072 B.S., a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, centered in Barpak, Gorkha district, followed by numerous aftershocks. A second major earthquake of 7.3 magnitude hit on 29th Baisakh, centered in Sindhupalchok and Dolakha districts. In response, Nepal Kyokushin-Seishin Kaikan Karate Association carried out a relief material distribution program in Kavre and Sindhupalchok to support those affected.
The 2072 earthquake caused the greatest devastation in Nepal's history. It claimed the lives of nearly 9,000 people, injured around 22,000, destroyed close to 800,000 homes, and left more than 800,000 people homeless. Gorkha, Nuwakot, Bhaktapur, Kavre, Sindhupalchok, and Dolakha were the worst-affected districts. The first earthquake began in Barpak, Gorkha on 12th Baisakh, and the second, centered in Sindhupalchok-Dolakha on 29th Baisakh, further worsened the situation for those already affected.
